Setting up your blog

I want each of you to create your own personal blog on blogger.com. This is a Google company and it's free. We will maintain these blogs throughout the semester posting and commenting periodically. I think the set-up is pretty self-explanatory. As you set them up I need you to send me the link to your blog. If you wish for privacy purposes or other considerations you can use some other name or identification. You just need to me a link to your blog.

STEP 1: Go to this URL: https://www.blogger.com If you already have a Google account simply sign in. If not sign up for a Google account. It's free and safe and useful.

STEP 2: Click the new blog button

STEP 3: Give it a title and an address (the URL). Click create blog button.
STEP 4: Click the edit button (the orange one with the pencil) to add your first post.
STEP 5: Once you've entered the title and body of the post click the publish button.
STEP 6: At the top left click view blog button to see your blog.
STEP 7: Now we can customize the blog. In the upper right corner click the design hypertext link.
STEP 8: Start by clicking on one of the templates. For our purposes I think the 'simple' layouts are best, but any of the templates other than 'Dynamic Views' will work fine. The Dynamic templates have too much going on. Click on he thumbnail of the template you like. You will be shown a preview. If you don't like it you can 'x' out of the window and choose another. When you find the one you like click the  apply to blog button.
STEP 9: Click view blog button in upper left corner again.
Step 10: Click on the design link in the upper right corner again.
Then click the customize button. this will let you add custom colors and layout.
The categories are on the left to change text, titles, links  click the 'Advanced' link.
Once you finish customizing click the apply to blog button in the upper right. Then click the 'view blog' link to see your blog.

When back on your blog page you have the option to edit your previous postings. There will be a pencil icon under each posting. Click it to edit the post.
After you finish your edits click update in the upper right corner.
Then the view blog button upper left corner.

If these instructions were not enough, google 'setting up a blogger site'. There will likely be better tutorials available. Play around and get familiar with what the blog lets you do.

To create a link use the underlined 'link' button.  To post a picture click the photo landscape icon. To post a video click the director's clapper. You will then most likely link to a Youtube video. Follow the instructions.
